Heating System FAQ's
The heater core, a small radiator behind your dashboard, circulates coolant to warm cabin air. Signs it needs service: cold air blowing, foggy windows after warm-up, sweet/bitter smells, dropping coolant levels, and engine overheating.
Low coolant steals your heat—when radiators leak or pumps fail, your heater core runs dry. The core itself might betray you—developing leaks, holes, or blockages that silence its warming song. A stubborn blower motor? It traps that precious heat, never letting it reach your shivering hands. Over time, those tiny HVAC controls and valves surrender to age—breaking or freezing in place. And even the most pristine heater, brimming with coolant, sits dormant without a thermostat's wake-up call.
It’s normal for your heater to blow cold air for the first few minutes. If it stays cold, there may be an issue with your heater or coolant system. Your heater relies on engine coolant (water + antifreeze) from the radiator. Low coolant or a failing water pump can prevent proper circulation, leaving the heater without enough hot coolant to warm the cabin.
